The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft zur Förderung der angewandten Forschung e.V. is the leading non-profit organization for institutes of applied research in Germany, undertaking contract research on behalf of industry, the service sector and the government. FRAUNHOFER, the Fraunhofer Institute for Open Communication Systems, is one of the largest research labs in Europe dedicated to communication networks.
In these areas, FRAUNHOFER is engaged in various research activates covering the aspects of multimedia signaling protocols, QoS control, network measurement, and testing. FRAUNHOFER is one of the driving forces for research in the new field of autonomic communication in Europe and co-founder of the Autonomic Communication Forum (ACF). The competence center ANTS (Autonomic Networking Technologies) has long standing expertise in the development and operation of IP measurement technologies. Research topics in this area are cost-efficient active and passive measurements in IPv4 and IPv6 networks, statistical sampling methods, and the distributed control and adaptation of measurements for various applications like accounting, SLA validation and network security. Furthermore, ANTS is active in the development of autonomic networking technologies to enable self-management and self-protection in future networks.
