Elsag Datamat spa, a Finmeccanica (http://www.finmeccanica.it) company, has been for more than 30 years a leading player in designing and integrating Information & Communication Technology based solutions.
The group counts about 1,400 professionals, of which about 1,250 employees, located in many branches in Italy and abroad. The parent company Elsag Datamat spa. is organized into three divisions (Government and Institutions, including aerospace, defence and environment sectors, Banks and Finance, Telco Media & Utilities) which - along with specialized consortia, subsidiaries and associated companies - operate with a strong vertical focus on clients in the company's reference markets. Through its Telco Media & Utilities Division and subsidiaries and associated companies, Elsag Datamat spa expresses a wide and deep expertise in the field of Communication Networks management and security, and is responsible for the design and development of a number of solutions both hardware and software ones.
Elsag Datamat spa group is able to plan, produce and sell global solutions for the protection of the communications and for the secure connection of data user systems with geographical infrastructures of telecommunications, as Networking appliances, Network Security, VPN Gateways, VPN Clients, PKI infrastructure (Certification Authority, Registration Authority, User tokens,…), Multimedia devices (Set-Top-Boxes). Concerning research and development activity, about 10-15% of yearly sales and about 5% of total hours (122 thousand hours at 31 December 2005) are dedicated to R&D. A short list of recent projects co-funded by the EC follows: (a) Risk and Crisis Management: FORMIDABLE, EGERIS, OASIS, ORCHESTRA, DEWS; (b) Security: ISCAPS (PASR 2004); Grid Technology: EU-DataGrid, SpaceGRID, EGEE, CrossGrid, The VOICE, AKoGriMo, NextGRID.
