Thales Research & Technology (UK) Ltd

Beneficiaries

Thales Research & Technology is the UK arm of the Thales corporate research centre and provides close support to the various Thales operating companies throughout the world. TRT consists of about 100 engineering staff, including hardware and software engineers skilled in implementation, systems designers and specialist technical consultants. In addition to providing support for Thales companies, TRT offers a wide range of consultancy and development services to European Government Agencies and to industry throughout the world, including EC, NATO, ESA, DTI, and others. Recent EC projects include SEINIT, EUROPCOM, e-SENSE, SUPHICE, TEQUILA, MESCAL, ENTHRONE I&II, VISNET I&II, ESSTRT, SOBCAH and SECCONDD.

TRT will be leading WP5 and developing visualisation techniques and tools in WP2, 4, 5 & 6. TRT has considerable experience in visualisation, and is currently running a Thales initiative to develop a Civil Technology Integration Centre (CivTIC), which allows for the visualisation of vast disparate data sets and models to support experimentation, capability evaluation and innovation.

TRT also has experience in creating visualisation tools for logistics (such as tracking containers) and event and crisis management (through a Secure Situational Awareness tool). Other relevant TRT projects include JACKAL and COMMINT, which are tools with a variety of visualisations to enable communications intelligence mission planning and training.

TRT also has links to two key systems being developed by Thales to enable insight through visualisation. The Thales European Research centre for Security & Information Systems (ThereSIS) is an applied research laboratory for developing global security technologies, particularly focusing on the area of information system security. The Battlefield Transformation Centre is an experimentation environment designed to evaluate the impact of new technologies on military tactics, techniques and procedures through the use of synthetic environments, simulation and visualisation.
